So, You Want to Be a Las Vegas Showgirl?

There’s just something about Vegas showgirls. Now, you have a shot at being one.

“Jubilee!,” the over-the-top showgirl extravaganza at Bally’s Las Vegas, is holding auditions for female and male dancers and singers on Jan. 23, 2012.

What’s involved? Dancers who audition typically have experience in tap, jazz and ballet. Singers are asked to perform two types of music at the audition: up-tempo Broadway-style and ballad.

There are some additional hoops to jump through before one gets to don the sequins and feathers, of course. All female dancers, singers and showgirls must be 5-feet 8-inches or taller, and male performers must be six feet or taller.

It probably wouldn't hurt to have a smile like Sylvia's, too.

The auditions take place from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Jan. 23 at Bally’s.

The prize for those who have the right stuff? Being part of the longest-running show on the Vegas Strip, one that’s been wowing audiences for more than 30 years. “Jubilee!” has been called a “retro-glam extravaganza.” We would probably only add “on steroids,” because this blog tends to add that to everything.

Few are chosen, but those few get to be part of something truly special. Find out more about Jubilee! And even if you don’t aspire to being a showgirl, you can get a rare, behind-the-scenes glimpse into a showgirl’s world by taking the show’s backstage tour.

In the meantime, the official Bally’s site offers a virtual tour of the “Jubilee!” Theater, as well as the showgirl dressing rooms. (They’re empty. It’s not that kind of tour!)

From the virtual tour, it appears showgirls may be a little obsessive about neatness.

Actually, this blog didn’t know the virtual tour existed until about four seconds ago, but it’s pretty great. You might even say it’s a virtual tour on steroids! Take a look.

And good luck at the auditions.
