Central Restaurant Takes Center Stage at Caesars
Central By Michel Richard restaurant at Caesars Palace has only been open a week, but it’s already receiving rave reviews. Specifically, from this Las Vegas blog! Yes, there are probably others raving, too, but our opinion’s the one that counts, right?
Central (sen-TRAHL) is an always-open gourmet restaurant from James Beard Award-winning chef Michel Richard.
This restaurant’s location is a huge plus, with an eye-catching bar just off the main lobby of Caesars Palace. When we visited, several guests, accompanied by their suitcases, were having a last cocktail before departing town. We imagine it will also be a hot spot for those who arrive at Caesars before check-in time.
The food at Central is described as “American cuisine with a French accent,” but this blog prefers to describe it as, “Hey, where’d my steak go?”
Because we have deep, heartfelt feelings of affection for you, we whipped out our video camera for a quick walk-around video tour of Central. Sadly, YouTube is not yet equipped with Taste-o-Vision. You’ll manage.
Yes, there are two wine rooms (one for white, one for red). What’s not to love? We predict wine awards galore for Central, mark our words, and we know as much about wine as “holding our tongue.” (Not much.)
On to the food, already!
The menu is one mouthwatering revelation after another, and any music aficionado will tell you the Mouthwatering Revelations were one of the best rock bands of the 1970s. But we’re talking about Central. Let’s stay focused.
Appetizers include Deviled Eggs, Asian Style Tuna Carpaccio, Tartare of Filet Mignon and a supremely pleasing Bacon and Onion Tart this blog never imagined it would like.
A tempting selection of soup and salads include a Miso French Onion soup, Goat Cheese Caesar Salad, Chinese Chicken Salad and Salad Frisee with Lardons and Poached Egg, whatever a “Frisee” might be.
The Cherry Tomato and Burrata Mozzarella stack (below) called to us, but we wanted to save room for, well, you’ll see.
The entrees are almost too pretty to believe. Mussels, Cioppino (don’t ask us, we’re a blog), Pan-Seared Salmon, Halibut with Mushroom and Arugula Salad, Rotisserie Chicken, Pork Loin, Lamb Shank, Prime Rib and our personal favorite so far, the Filet Mignon (pictured earlier) with Haricots Verts. Which tasted like green beans to us, but whatever they were, they were amazing.
Also popular, judging from the “oohs” coming from nearby tables, were the sandwiches and burgers, including the Grilled Mushroom and Cheese sandwich, the Crab Burger, Lobster Burger (touted as a “favorite among Michel’s guests with its lobster and surprise crunch with potato tuile”), Ahi Tuna Burger, Corned Beef Sandwich and Meatball Burger (on our agenda for next time).
The menu is rounded out with some mind-blowing desserts, and we do not use the term “mind-blowing” loosely, trust us. Watch your back, Serendipity 3!
We tried Michel’s chocolate bar (delicious, below) and cheesecake (chosen a favorite by our table mates).
But if we had to pick a favorite dessert, it’d be the Creme Brulee.
The Creme Brulee at Central (below) had one of the more startling presentations we’ve ever seen (no bowl?), and the taste, happily, surpassed expectations.
The restaurant’s Celebration Cake was also something to behold, complete with fireworks.
We look forward to hearing what you think of this new restaurant and bar offering at Caesars Palace. In the meantime, we’ll be here, licking our food photos. Unless that’s somehow inappropriate.
