Long Hair Don’t Care: Donors Receive Free Haircuts At Rio’s “Locks Of Love” Drive
If you a) constantly fuss with your long hair; b) throw it in a ponytail every day; c) look at cute, short bobs more than usual; or d) all of the above, we think it’s time for a change.
This summer, why not use this change for good and donate your locks? On Sunday, August 18from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Rio Spa & Salon holds its annual “Locks of Love” drive. So let’s “cut” to the chase: If you donate at least 10 inches of hair, you’ll get a complimentary blunt cut, along with a 30% discount on hair treatments.
Another perk? The Rio will hold a “Catch of the Day” contest. If you donate the longest ponytail, you’ll win a $250 spa prize package. While it may seem hard to part ways with your locks, a relaxing spa day makes it all worth it. All donors will receive complimentary refreshments and a gift bag.
Hair donated to “Locks of Love” turns into wigs and hairpieces for children undergoing chemotherapy, suffering from alopecia areata or recuperating from scalp burns. Since the first cut-a-thon three years ago, “Locks of Love” received almost 500 ponytails.
“Our annual cut-a-thon is our team’s favorite day of the year,” said Sparkle Drebert, Rio’s salon manager. “The salon is filled with so much positive energy. It’s fun to see the donors excited about their new looks and to know it is all for a good cause.”
Great cause. Free haircut. Amazing goodies. If this “hair-raising” event sounds too good to be true, there is a caveat: Bleached or highlighted tresses aren’t usable. However, permed and color-treated hair are permitted. You can also bring in previously cut ponytails.
