World’s Happiest Mayor Talks Up Vegas
This blog loves it some Mayor Oscar Goodman. The jovial mayor, almost always flanked by Vegas showgirls, made a recent appearance on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report.”
Watch the episode here. (The mayor’s portion of the program starts about 15 minutes in.)
The mayor frankly discusses how the economy has had an impact on Las Vegas, as well as some of his better-known controversies, including how he once stated “taggers” should have their thumbs cut off, and the time he was asked by an elementary school student what he’d take with him if he were marooned on a island. The mayor’s answer: “A bottle of Bombay Sapphire Gin.”
As Mr. Colbert’s satirical pundit discovered, Oscar Goodman is pretty much unflusterable (not a real word). He even addresses his days as a Vegas lawyer when he represented alleged underworld figures. (The mayor even played himself in the movie “Casino.”)
There’s no denying it. The ever-colorful Mayor Goodman is part of what makes Vegas…Vegas.
